RANIKHET

Nestled in the laps of Kumaon Hills in the Almora district of Uttarakhand, Ranikhet is an evergreen hill station that is a massive tourist attraction in the state. PLACE TO VISIT IN RANIKHET

Chaubatia Gardens -
Considered as one of the best places to visit in Ranikhet, the ‘Chaubatia Garden’ is known for their exquisite orchards of peaches, apples, plums and apricots. Stationed at a distance of 10 km. from the heart of Ranikhet, these gardens are a pleasant spot for picnics and day outings. These gardens are also one of the best examples of step farming in the Himalayan region. This orchard comprises more than 200 varieties of fruits and flowers. A research laboratory is also situated within its vicinity. Accompanied with this, the surroundings of this place provides panoramic views of the snow clad mountain peaks of the majestic Himalayas, as well as a few religious spots like Nanda Devi Temple, Trishul, Nandaghunti, and Nilkanth.

Haidakhan Temple -
At a distance of 4.5 km from Ranikhet Bus Stand, The Haidakhan Temple is situated in Haidakhan Baba Ashram at Chiliyanuala near Ranikhet. This temple is made by Haidakhan who is believed to be the incarnation of Lord Shiva to whom this temple is dedicated and is one of the best places in Ranikhet to visit. This temple proudly displays a tall statue of Lord Hanuman and Lord Shiva. Haidakhan Babaji, simply called Babaji or Bhole Baba, was a teacher who appeared near the village of Haidakhan in Nainital district and taught publicly from 1970 to 1984. His followers maintain that Haidakhan Babaji is a Mahavatar, a human manifestation of God. He left his mortal remains in 1984, at an early age. Sri Haidakhan Wale Baba established this beautiful Ashram between 1970 and 1984 and many new buildings were erected in recent years. There are also 5 guest houses, the main temple, the Italian temple and Sri Babaji's Kutir and the Sri Baba Research Hospital. Navaratri is celebrated with great enthusiasm here with yagnas on all the 9 days. Satsang of bhajans happen every evening during the Aarti and people start dancing on their own. Many devotees from abroad visit this temple to have their marriage in Indian tradition. One can meditate in the peaceful surroundings.

Jhula Devi Temple -
One of the major tourist attractions in Ranikhet, Jhula Devi Temple is dedicated to goddess Durga and is well-known for its cluster of elegantly designed bells. Legend has it that this shrine was built in the 8th century. Located on the Kumaon Hill, amidst the tranquil and relaxing settings of nature, Jhula Devi Temple has the deity sitting on a jhula (Hindi word for cradle) and hence the name. Going by folklore, the idol of the goddess was found by a shepherd who was guided by the deity herself in his dream. Locals believe that goddess Durga is the protector of the protector of the people of the valley. It is also widely believed that whosoever ties a bell on the temple wall, is granted with his/ her wish in due course of time.

Golf Course -
One of the highest golf courses in Asia, the famous Upat Golf Course also known as Ranikhet Golf Course is situated only 6 km away from Ranikhet. It is located near Ghingari Khal and is looked after by the Kumaon Regiment. Welcome to the highest golf course in Asia, it’s challenging, undulating, and picturesque with perfectly textured grasses. Built in and around 1920, this lush 9-hole golf course is a prime attraction for tourists. The golf course remains open for public, on a payment of the small amount. This golf course often used by the officers and cadets of Kumaon Regiment (KRC) & Naga Regiment. With a pleasant morning chill, a walk down the golf course road is as romantic as it gets. Another major attraction nearby Golf course is ‘Kalika Temple’, a shrine dedicated to goddess Kali.

Majkhali -
Situated at a distance of 13 km from Ranikhet, this beautiful sightseeing spot is a must visit. Offering stunning views of Mount Trishul, the spot is ideal for nature lovers. An action packed afternoon here will include a lazy picnic, some outdoor games and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Away from the hustle bustle of city noise, you can enjoy melodious sounds of quiet surroundings and the soft chirping of birds. For the more adventurous, there are a number of walking trails around the foothills.

Ram Mandir -
Ram Mandir is located in Ranikhet. Ranikhet is a beautiful hill station town of Almora district of Uttarakhand. Ram Mandir is in the surrounding areas of Jhula Devi temple. Ram Mandir is devoted to Lord Rama. A small stairway goes up to the hilltop where Ram Mandir is situated. Ram Mandir has building devoted to the student living there under religious vows. The students are being taught the ancient Vedas and Vedic literature and up to date mathematics by Sant Sri Mouni Maharaj. People having the desire to learn and read Vedas must visit this Ram Temple without fail. The Ram temple is very old compared to other Ranikhet attractions. The Jhoola Devi Temple -
Blessing Ranikhet and the area around it is Jhoola Devi Temple. The holy shrine is dedicated to Goddess Durga and has been named as Jhoola Devi because the presiding deity is seen seated on a cradle. According to locals this temple is 700 years old and the original deity was stolen in 1959. Like Chitai Golu Temple, this temple is also recognized by the number of bells hanging in its premises. It believed that Jhoola Devi fulfils the wishes of her devotees and after the completion of the wishes; the devotees come here to offer the copper bell.

Binsar Mahadev Temple -
Built at a distance of 19 km from Ranikhet, this temple is devoted to Lord Shiva and is considered one most famous places to visit in Ranikhet. It is believed that lighting a diya on the day of Vaikunth



Chaturdeshi in this temple can fulfil the longing of a child. Many pilgrims and childless couples visit the temple during their vacation in Ranikhet.
